George Springer wasn’t going to let his stutter stop him from being mic’d-up during MLB ASG

The Astros’ George Springer was one of the players who was mic’d-up in the outfield during the All-Star Game on Tuesday night. Afterwards, Springer said the in-game interview was fun, and he also explained how he hoped to send a message with his decision to wear the mic.

“I can’t spread a message to kids and adults if I’m not willing to put myself out there. I understand. I’m gonna stutter. I don’t care. It is what it is. It’s not gonna stop me from talking or having fun.” -George Springer

Springer is a spokesperson for SAY, The Stuttering Association for Youth, and he hosts a bowling benefit every year to raise money for the organization. Via SAY.org, Springer says:

“I’m thrilled to team up with The Stuttering Association for the Young, and wish that I had an organization like SAY when I was a kid. Together, we can help young people who stutter find their own unique and powerful voices.”
