In June 2018, 8-year-old Stephanie and her mother, Allison, walked into SAY’s offices – eager for support, but unsure of what they would find. That first meeting lasted two hours, twice as long as scheduled. There was simply too much to say – about stuttering, listening, and the suite of SAY programming that awaited Stephanie.
8 years later, Stephanie has not missed a single cycle of SAY: Confident Voices or a summer at Camp SAY.
Over these years, she has grown into a leader in the SAY community – a performer of original plays, songs, and poems on our Confident Voices stages; a voice behind countless mic-drop moments in post-show talkbacks; and a mentor to her peers.
This year, Stephanie can add something new to that list: featured artist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, after her painting John 3:17 received a youth award. Her piece will be on display through fall 2026.
This July, the SAY team and over 100 young people who stutter will travel to San Antonio, Texas, for another unforgettable summer at Camp SAY – two weeks filled with connection and the freedom to be themselves fully. Camp SAY blends traditional camp experiences like swimming, archery, and horseback riding with SAY’s signature arts programming, creating a space where every child who stutters is celebrated exactly as they are.
Through our pay-what-you-can model – used by more than 85% of SAY families – Camp SAY is accessible to every child who stutters, regardless of financial circumstances. Last year alone, SAY provided over $2 million in financial support to ensure that cost is never a barrier to participation.
Every child deserves a place where their voice is welcomed. At SAY, every voice matters.
It costs $5,000 to send a child to Camp SAY. Your gift today – in any amount – will change a life.
