SAY: Speech is Different

Unfortunately, the field of speech therapy has a history of viewing stuttering as a problem that clinicians can help “fix.” With new research and an emphasis on valuing and learning from the lived experience of people who stutter, the field has made many changes to the standard of care that it promotes. Nonetheless, speech therapists still consistently report that they have limited academic and clinical training in the area of stuttering1.
